Position Summary:

Southern Illinois University School of Law is an outstanding small public law school that provides its students with an optimal mix of theoretical and experiential educational opportunities in a student-centered environment in order to prepare them for a changing legal profession in a global environment. SIU School of Law seeks to fill one full-time Assistant Professor of Practice faculty position. The successful candidate will coordinate the Veterans’ Legal Assistance Program clinic and teach students who enroll in the course. This is a non-tenure track 12-month appointment (possible renewal contingent on available funding) with an anticipated start date of April 1, 2022. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Representation of Veterans in administrative actions and civil legal matters. Classroom and clinical instruction as well as other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Juris Doctor degree and be a Department of Veterans Affairs accredited attorney.

Preferred Qualifications:

Licensed to practice law in Illinois or eligibility for Admission on Motion. Experience teaching in a law school.  Two or more years of experience handling Veterans Affairs disability claims at the RO, BVA, and CAVC levels. Experience with some civil legal matters including family law, wills, and powers of attorney
