The College of St. Scholastica is seeking highly qualified candidates for a part-time Campus Safety Officer. The safety of our students, staff, faculty and visitors is our primary goal. Campus Safety operates twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week. The position will work two 8-hour shifts per week. The days of the shift will not vary and will be the same week-to-week. The hours are 12:00 am – 8 am for each 8-hour shift.

Responsibilities:
• Contribute to a campus environment that embraces community through mutual respect of those with different cultures or backgrounds
• Respond to and investigate incidents, occurrences, and emergencies
• Administer medical first aid and/or CPRas required
• Unlock and secure buildings according to daily schedules
• Patrol assigned area on foot, in assigned motor vehicle to ensure personal, building, and equipment security
• Conduct ongoing patrols of the campus during each shift to ensure physical security of property
• Prepare routine, standardized reports
• Remain alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security violators
• Watch for and report irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contact emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as required
• Examine doors, windows, and gates to ensure safety; open and close buildings; monitor closed buildings for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities
• Provide escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty, as necessary
• Perform periodic checks of emergency call boxes and/or street lights to ensure proper functioning; report malfunctions as required
• Patrol and monitor assigned parking areas and/or parking garages to provide public safety and assistance
• Serve as Campus Safety Authority as outlined by the Clery Act
• When required, traffic and crowd control
• Provide information and assistance to students, staff, faculty and visitors
• Enforce campus parking policies
• Review shift log with oncoming officer
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the Safety Supervisor

Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Two years’ experience as a security professional or civilian/military law enforcement officer OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of:
• Principles and practices of safety/security policies, protocols and regulations
• Computer applications including Word and Excel as well as the proprietary computer systems required to manage the tasks included in this job description
• Building safety/security and lock procedures

Skill in:
• Interpersonal interactions with a variety of individuals from different socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds
• Understanding and following specific procedures for effective security, codes and regulations related to the work
• Reacting calmly and effectively in emergency situations
• Communicating effectively in oral and written forms
• Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities
• Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
• Detecting problems and reporting information to appropriate personnel
• Exhibiting excellent judgment, integrity, and dependability
• Completing required routine paperwork

 REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
• Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
• Valid driver’s license
• First Aid, CPR and AED certification within 3 months
• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:
• Three years of security experience within higher education
• Law enforcement or EMS experience
