Charter Wire has exciting opportunities for new team members to join our Production Team as a Line Assistant on DAYS or NIGHTS (6-6) on a 3-2-2-3 schedule!
POSITION PURPOSE/MISSION:
While working in accordance with company policies and procedures under the direction of plant supervision, support the Operators to shape wire to various sizes/shapes, produce the highest quality wire at the lowest possible cost, meet or exceed departmental performance standards, and meet or exceed customer specifications as well as delivery requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent standing and walking.
- Occasional foot use, climbing, push/pulling, carrying reaching, forceful motion, and lifting up to 35 lbs.
- Minimal sitting, below waist level work, balancing, reaching, and lifting up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to meet the essential job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, as outlined in the job description.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Basic oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with other employees.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Basic problem solving skills.
- Basic math skills.
- Basic reading skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Forklift experience.
- Overhead crane operation experience.
- Basic welding experience.
- Experience with hand and power tools.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Follow and comply with all work rules.
- Understand quality requirements of product, inspect wire during run, and notify operator of any discovered defects.
- Assist in positioning and moving material for setups as well as line operations.
- Verify correct raw material coil, load coils, and weld coils of material.
- Keep accurate paperwork for raw material coils and finished product.
- Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
- Package material on the line: cut bands for coils and bundles, weigh bundles, tag bundles, and report weights to operator.
- Assist in setting up the line: change oil/paste in draw box, install tooling when required, assist in. stripping the line, assist in threading the line, open mills, change washers, cut guide blocks, set up payoff, set up coiler or bundler, and add media to blasters.
- Transport and dump garbage and scrap metal dumpsters.
- Operate forklift and overhead crane.
- Weld coils together on the line.
- Follow Environmental, Quality and Safety Management System procedures and requirements.
